Special surprise party for kids when they sign-up for Summer Reading 2024 and get a reading bag with a reading log and begin reading for prizes. This program is for children up through 5th grade. Don't worry, if you miss the party you can still sign-up at the library during prize desk hours.

Weekly Prizes for Reading

Every week for 7 weeks. Read for at least 20 minutes every day. Track your progress on your reading log. Once a week show your log at the prize desk and win a prize for having read. Come and get your prize even if you only read one day that week. Kids and Teens have different reading prizes. Must be registered to play.

Every week for 6 weeks we will hold a drawing and 1 lucky kid will win a tote bag filled with books and
another filled with prizes. We thank Florida Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities for the Summer Reading Program Grant which allowed us to purchase books about art for the children.

Get tickets by signing-up for the kids’ reading program, at the Golden Ticket booth, by completing the
challenges in the kids reading log, and with other fun surprises all summer.

Teen Reading Challenge

Join us this summer for our teen reading challenge and get a chance to spin the prize wheel. Read each week for as long as you’d like and bring in your reading log punch card during that week and have it punched. You will automatically get a Golden Ticket, as well as a chance to spin the prize wheel. If you miss reading for a week, then you miss your chance to spin the wheel!

Local Author Amy Nielsen Virtual Visit

Amy Nielsen is the author of several books, including the YA novel, "Worth It," bronze medalist in the 2024 Florida Book Award Young Adult Literature category. "Worth It" is about a pregnant teenager in an abusive relationship who finds hope and life. This semi-autobiographical novel is set in Central Florida in the late 1980's. The fictional town in depicted in the novel is actually Umatilla. The author was raised in Umatilla and attended Umatilla schools. During the virtual author visit she will provide details about which locations, and maybe characters, are based on places and people from Umatilla. Although she will be remoting in on a virtual platform, this presentation is strictly for our Umatilla audience.
